Doubters deny the importance of human-induced climate change, either because they believe the scientific evidence is inconclusive or because they expect the costs to be enormous.

Corporate groups are concerned with staying profitable.

Low-elevation areas and local interests fear severe environmental and economic impacts.

Health and environmental organizations have a range of concerns about the varying impacts of climatic change.

These scientists are involved in multinational energy research initiatives which hope to develop economically viable alternative energy sources

These scientists are involved in current research on global warming.


Negotiation in Working Groups
(60 minutes - (Procedures)

  1. What compromise proposals are acceptable to the group? List them.
  2. What specific actions (technological, economic, social and political) implement your proposals? List them.

Four groups including representatives from various interested parties negotiate proposals under the direction of a chair and co-chair chosen by the group with a teacher-recorder taking notes of agreements.  Chair will moderate the working group and the co-chair will report out to the assembly.


Reassemble to Hear Proposals by Representatives
(2 minutes per representatives by committee)

  1. Who are you and what country/region do you represent?
  2. Why are you interested in global warming?
  3. What is the plan that your working group has proposed?
